How Many Marvel Movies Tom Holland Is Contracted For

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to become a very fluid place. With >Doctor Strange's release, we're now truly in the midst of its Phase Three set of films. Because the MCU has been releasing blockbusters since 2008, many of the actors playing the iconic roles are nearing the end of their contracts. And at the same time, new diverse characters are being introduced as the universe expands and shifts focus on new protagonists. But how long are the newbies sticking around for? Tom Holland recently revealed some of the details of his contract as the new Spider-Man, which makes it seem like we're going to be seeing a lot of the web slinger in the next few years.

The Hollywood Reporter recently did a ton of interviews with Tom Holland along with being featured as their Next Gen 2016 issue. During this, Holland revealed how many movies he's currently contracted to appear in:

They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I'm unclear as to which movies, though. I do know I have three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They're very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.

That's right, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man isn't moving anytime soon.

In addition to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems that Tom Holland will lead another two solo films. This is a pretty major announcement, although not unexpected. Spider-Man is set to be a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, putting the teenage hero at the same visibility as franchise leads like Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man.

Additionally, Holland revealed that he's set to appear in smaller roles in an unspecified amount of films, likely including the gargantuan Avengers: Infinity War. It should be interesting to see which movies Spider-Man ends up crossing over to. Because his introduction in >Captain America: Civil War was so brief, we don't really know how Peter Parker interacts with the various MCU players we know. Aside from his relationship with Tony Stark, we haven't seen Spidey speak with the other heroes, with the exception being his awesome one liners in Civil War's airport sequence. Did he exchange digits with The Vision and Black Widow? We'll have to wait and see.

>Spider-Man: Homecoming will be enlightening in regards to who Peter Parker really is. He seems to be into superheroics and technology, but he is just a kid. Spider-Man's first solo movie will presumably breathe some fresh air into the MCU, while also helping to diversify the universe with an outstanding multicultural cast.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters July 7th, 2017.

Design and prototyping tool Marvel scores £4M Series A led by BGF Ventures

Hot in the heels of its acquisition of POP, design and prototyping platform Marvel is disclosing that it has raised £4 million in Series A funding. Leading the round is BGF Ventures, with participation from previous backers including Index Ventures, Connect Ventures, Inreach Ventures, Andy McLoughlin and Richard Fearn.

Starting out life as a simple app for prototyping (or, really, wire-framing) web and mobile app ideas, Marvel has since grown into an all-in-one design platform that aims to make design and prototyping possible for everyone. It’s used by individual designers and teams to help companies put design at the heart of the organisation.

To do this, Marvel increasingly supports the entire web and app design workflow, from wire framing to user testing, and with a host of collaboration features.

What’s also interesting about the way the company and its product has grown is how this appears to have been partially achieved through a clever strategy of acquisitions. The web and app design ecosystem is full of features, if not products, many of which will never make it into scalable companies.

What Marvel has begun to do is buy up some of those features and products â€" prior to acquiring POP’s assets, it purchased design tool Plexi â€" and rolled them into its own product in order to stay ahead of the market. Today’s Series A is about building out Marvel as a company.

I’m told the startup’s platform now has over 1 million registered users, with around 35,000 new users signing up each month. Its largest markets are the U.S. and U.K., while it’s currently investing in sales, which, until recently, have largely been organic, and customer support. The new capital will also enable Marvel to expand into new markets, and develop new products.

Rory Stirling, partner at BGF Ventures, says in a statement: “We’ve watched Murat, Brendan and Jonathan build this business over the last few years and are extremely proud to be joining them on the Marvel journey. We love their obsession with product and their affinity for users. Amazing things happen when technology is used to simplify creative processes and we believe Marvel has the ability to transform the way individuals and teams create great products on a global basis. This is exactly the type of ambition we like to back at BGF Ventures and we look forward to helping the team scale up a business that already has an impressive and loyal user base.”
