Marvel Team-Up: Watch the First Two 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Trailers!

Spider-Man finally came home to Marvel Studios earlier this year, and he made quite the debut in Captain America: Civil War, where he was Tony Stark’s trump card against Captain America’s rebel Avengers. The team-up of Spider-Man and Iron Man was a total crowd-pleaser, so it makes sense that Marvel would want to play up their relationship in the first two previews for Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there’s so much Tony Stark in these trailers that it almost looks more like an old-fashioned “Mighty Marvel Team-Up” than a solo Spidey movie.

Of course, Marvel Studios didn’t reacquire the rights to Spider-Man just to make another, completely solo superhero movie. Sony has been producing those for the better part of a decade. And certainly everybody loves seeing Robert Downey Jr. play Tony Stark again and again, so I’m not complaining about that either. But I do hope that Iron Man doesn’t completely steal the movie away from Spider-Man. Peter Parker is a great superhero in his own right, and he deserves an opportunity to really shine again, and this is his first real opportunity in quite a few years after the disappointing (and failed) Amazing Spider-Man reboot.

Everything else about these previews â€" one domestic, one international, both fairly similar â€" looks just dandy. The focus is one the heroes instead of the villain, The Vulture, played by Michael Keaton (hot off his Oscar-nominated turn as the superhero Birdman, funnily enough). The Vulture looks like a high-tech bank robber, which is par for the course with Spidey. Hopefully the future previews will make it clearer why the Vulture is a serious threat, because after taking on half the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War (including Falcon, a flying guy), another flying guy doesn’t seem like much of a threat to him right now.

There’s a lot of unanswered questions here, and a lot of the movie we are obviously not seeing. These first previews are Marvel’s attempt to grab our attention, and take advantage of the marketing potential for teaming Spider-Man up with Iron Man one more time. It may be that those scenes are only a small percentage of the movie, and this is just an advertising ploy. It’s too early to say for certain. All we can say for sure is that these previews look pretty good so far, and that we’re looking forward to seeing the film for ourselves when Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.

International Trailer:

From the Press Release:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine â€" distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man â€" but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Directed by Jon Watts. Produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, Based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

: Comics :: News :: Marvel :: Paste

Marvel’s swamp monster Man-Thing was last seen in the pages of the now-canceled Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. earlier this year, but the iconic monster isn’t staying down long. Man-Thing is now getting his own five-part miniseries, and it’s going to be written by none other than Goosebumps scribe R.L. Stine.

Stine, who is 73, has never written a comic book before, though he told the New York Times that it’s always been a dream of his: “My first ambition was to be a comic book artist. I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: ‘Super Stooge,’ the dumbest hero on earth. I was terrible. I had no choice but to be a writer.”

Stine, who actually dropped a hint in October that this news was coming during a Reddit AMA, already has his own swamp monster, but he said for this series he was inspired by classic horror comics like Tales From the Crypt: “They were scary, really gruesome, bloody comics and they always had a twist ending. I think they’ve been a major influence in everything I’ve done since.”

But true to Stine’s style, the series won’t be all horror. “I’m going to do a lot of action and a lot of great violence and make it creepy, but I’m going to make it funny at the same time,” he said. “It’s what I try to do in my books.”

Based on the short plot synopsis given, the book definitely sounds comical. Man-Thing will be traveling to Hollywood because he’s “wondering why he is not starring in a major motion picture.” Stine also said that Man-Thing “can talk and he’s very sarcastic,” which is a pretty stark break from continuity, where Man-Thing has (almost) always been a silent, stoic character.

Covers for the series will be done by Tyler Crook, best known for the horror comics B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth and Harrow County. Interior artwork will be handled by German Peralta, who’s drawing the comic version of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Daniel Johnson, whose only other Marvel credit was Quake #1.

The first issue of Stine’s five-part Man-Thing miniseries will arrive in March. You can see the first issue’s cover and three unlettered pages of the comic below.

How Many Marvel Movies Tom Holland Is Contracted For

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to become a very fluid place. With >Doctor Strange's release, we're now truly in the midst of its Phase Three set of films. Because the MCU has been releasing blockbusters since 2008, many of the actors playing the iconic roles are nearing the end of their contracts. And at the same time, new diverse characters are being introduced as the universe expands and shifts focus on new protagonists. But how long are the newbies sticking around for? Tom Holland recently revealed some of the details of his contract as the new Spider-Man, which makes it seem like we're going to be seeing a lot of the web slinger in the next few years.

The Hollywood Reporter recently did a ton of interviews with Tom Holland along with being featured as their Next Gen 2016 issue. During this, Holland revealed how many movies he's currently contracted to appear in:

They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I'm unclear as to which movies, though. I do know I have three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They're very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.

That's right, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man isn't moving anytime soon.

In addition to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems that Tom Holland will lead another two solo films. This is a pretty major announcement, although not unexpected. Spider-Man is set to be a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, putting the teenage hero at the same visibility as franchise leads like Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man.

Additionally, Holland revealed that he's set to appear in smaller roles in an unspecified amount of films, likely including the gargantuan Avengers: Infinity War. It should be interesting to see which movies Spider-Man ends up crossing over to. Because his introduction in >Captain America: Civil War was so brief, we don't really know how Peter Parker interacts with the various MCU players we know. Aside from his relationship with Tony Stark, we haven't seen Spidey speak with the other heroes, with the exception being his awesome one liners in Civil War's airport sequence. Did he exchange digits with The Vision and Black Widow? We'll have to wait and see.

>Spider-Man: Homecoming will be enlightening in regards to who Peter Parker really is. He seems to be into superheroics and technology, but he is just a kid. Spider-Man's first solo movie will presumably breathe some fresh air into the MCU, while also helping to diversify the universe with an outstanding multicultural cast.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters July 7th, 2017.

First Spider-Man: Homecoming teaser shows the Marvel superhero with WINGS

The first teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming has arrived - and fans are divided.

The clip, which was unveiled this week, reveals that Iron Man has given Spidey's classic suit an upgrade.

Part-time superhero Peter Parker's iconic outfit now has the added addition of web wings.

Although Spider-Man can't now fly, he can now glide through the air as he pursues baddies throughout New York.

Spider-man will be released next year
He's got wings!

While it may seem like a new addition to film buffs, Spidey's new outfit closely mirrors the superhero's original suit when he first appeared in comics.

Spider-Man Homecoming is the latest in an army of Marvel movies and the reboot is sure to make new star Tom Holland one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood.

when will the full trailer arrive?

Were you charmed by Tom Holland's scene-stealing turn in Captain America: Civil War?

If so, then you'll be glad to hear that the trailer for Holland's first standalone outing as high school student and secret superhero Peter Parker is released tomorrow â€" and, ahead of its launch, Marvel have decided to treat us to a short preview clip.

[embedded content]

In the first footage from the studio's forthcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland's Parker can be seen receiving a mysterious case, then testing out a new "minor upgrade" to his costume: a pair of high-tech, Tony Stark-designed "wings".

minor upgrade

The latter innovation will be particularly welcomed by fans of the original Spider-Man comics, due to the fact that early incarnations of the teenage superhero, who was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, also featured the webbing.

Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy no. 15 (August 1962)

While Spider-Man has never been able to fly, his outfit's "web-wings" allowed him to glide between buildings, as depicted in the new teaser.

A longer trailer will be unveiled on Thursday's edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live - a full 24 hours later than originally promised. But fans have a while to go before the film arrives in cinemas: Spiderman: Homecoming is scheduled for release on July 7 2017.

As suggested by the new teaser, Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) will play a part in the story, continuing the mentor relationship established between his character and Parker in Civil War, while Michael Keaton will play villain Vulture.

R.L. Stine to Write Man-Thing Series for Marvel

Photo
Credit Tyler Crook/Marvel Entertainment

Man-Thing, a swamp monster introduced by Marvel Comics in 1971, will return in a series beginning in March. The horror comics will be written by someone more than familiar with tales of suspense: R. L. Stine, the author of the “Goosebumps” novellas for children.

For Mr. Stine, 73, writing the five-issue series is something of a lifelong dream. “My first ambition was to be a comic book artist,” he said. “I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: ‘Super Stooge,’ the dumbest hero on earth.” Though he shared the stories with his classmates, he quickly realized he had no talent for illustration. “I was terrible,” he said. “I had no choice but to be a writer.”

The new Man-Thing series, with covers by Tyler Crook and interior artwork by German Peralta and Daniel Johnson, is inspired by the iconic horror comics of the 1950s like Tales From the Crypt, of which Mr. Stine was a big fan.

“They were scary, really gruesome, bloody comics and they always had a twist ending,” he said. “I think they’ve been a major influence in everything I’ve done since,” he said. This was despite his mother’s efforts, who thought the comics were trash and would not let them in the house. Thankfully, the local barbershop had them. “Every Saturday morning, I’d go get a haircut so I could read the comics,” Mr. Stine recalled.

Marvel offered Mr. Stine several characters, but he quickly settled on Man-Thing because of his fondness for swamp monsters, which have been frequent characters in “Goosebumps” stories. Despite being a horror series â€" aimed at teenagers and older â€" Mr. Stine hopes to bring some comedy.

“I’m going to do a lot of action and a lot of great violence and make it creepy, but I’m going to make it funny at the same time,” he said. “It’s what I try to do in my books.”

In the first story, Man-Thing heads to Burbank, Calif., wondering why he is not starring in a major motion picture. (Comic book purists may balk at one revision to the character: Man-Thing will no longer be mute. “He can talk and he’s very sarcastic,” Mr. Stine noted.)

Each issue will also include a short horror story written by Mr. Stine and drawn by a guest artist.

Marvel’s First Phase IV Film Will Be A SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Web-head bumps Bad Boys 4’s July 2019 release date.

Spider-Man coming back to Marvel was a pretty big deal. His appearance in Captain America: Civil War was a big deal, and the arrival of the trailer for his first solo Marvel outing is a big deal as well, and following the mostly positive reactions, the good folks at Sony (with the help of Marvel Studios) are looking to bring Spidey back to the big screen on July 3rd, 2019. Despite all the reboot exhaustion and the past decade’s unsuccessful entries, people still get excited for one of the most popular superheroes of all time. They want to see him done right, and Spider-Man: Homecoming feels like a good place to start.

In related news, The Hollywood Reporter name-drops Bad Boys 4 in its report, citing the Spider-Man sequel’s release date as reason for Sony moving the Lawrence/Smith action caper back a few weeks to May 2019. The Joe Carnahan-helmed Bad Boys 3 a.k.a. Bad Boys For Life is set to release January 2018, in case you’re looking to update your sequel calendar, but the most interesting thing in all this as that Marvel's first outing after its massive Thanos-centric Avengers finale will be relatively small and intimate. Colour me excited.

Tom Holland has a six-picture deal to play Spider-Man. Three of those appearances are set to be solo movies, so if all goes well, we can expect him to have a third film around 2021 before potentially passing down the mantle. It’s unknown whether Peter Parker will appear in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War (or its yet untitled 2019 sequel), but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and let you know as soon as something tingles our Spider-senses.
